Medecins du Monde (Лекари на света) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable population the world over. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care.
MdM France is currently implementing a migrants/refugees` health project in the country. This project is part of a multi-regional program launched for one year in 11 countries, funded by the European Union and the Crisis center of the French Ministry of foreign affairs.
Furthermore, MdM-France`s Balkans regional mission Head Office is located in Sofia, Bulgaria, which is also encompassed in the present job description.
Médecins du Monde (Лекари на света) in Bulgaria is currently recruiting for a
Cultural Mediator Kurdish Speaker
S/he will ensure safe and dignified access of refugees and migrants to medical, legal and other services, and provide translation and interpretation as well as culturally appropriate, correct and smooth communication between the persons of concern and the service providers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide support to the Social Mediators/Heath Mediators in organising the implementation of the informative sessions (outreach activities in open centres for migrants, as well as outside the centres).
• Provide written or oral translation (including use of communication devices) from Bulgarian and/or English to Kurdish and vice versa for informative documentation to individuals or groups.
• When an individual support is required by a project user, to accompany him/her and the Social Worker to the necessary authority/service.
• Supporting the preparation of awareness session material by providing feedback on beneficiaries` cultural aspects
• Conducting interviews with individuals to assess and review their situation – from Bulgarian and/or English to Kurdish and vice versa.
• Provide clear, understandable, and culturally appropriate translation and interpretation services for individuals,groups and the service providers, as required.
• Support interventions aimed at supporting refugees and migrants by conveying information on practical aspects of living to the Social Mediators.
• Other tasks as required by the Coordinator in order to support implementation of MdM`s activities.
Requirements:
• Fluency in written and spoken English language and/or Bulgarian language, as well as Kurdish is mandatory.
• Flexible and ability to cope with stressful situations
• Previous experience as a translator is a strong asset
• NGO experience is an asset
• Team working spirit and good organization skills.
• Computer skills
• Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principle
• Ability to multitask and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
