Regional Project Coordinator

WWF Bulgaria

Maternity cover - 1 year

WWF is the world's largest conservation organization, founded in 1961. We’re active in over 100 countries and have over 7700 employees. WWF Central and Eastern Europe is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF’s efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube-Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of 160 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication and crisis response.

WWF Bulgaria is seeking to recruit a Regional Project Coordinator to support the implementation of the "Successful Wildlife Crime Prosecution in Europe" (SWiPE) project by providing operational and administrative coordination, management and technical guidance to the project partners, ensuring achievement of project objectives and delivery of project deliverables across in close consultation with the national project units, stakeholders and partners. The SWiPE consortium comprises 13 partners (WWF, Fauna & Flora International, TRAFFIC, Judicial Academy Croatia and the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Croatia) in 11 countries (EU and non-EU countries) under the funding of the EU LIFE programme and works with enforcement authorities and prosecution units to discourage and ultimately reduce wildlife crime by improving compliance with EU environmental law. The project partners collaborate closely with a number of European and international organisations in the project activities’ implementation such as ENPE, EUFJE, UNEP, Birdlife Europe, OCLAESP as well as with other LIFE projects.  With its activities, SWiPE aims to contribute to increasing the number of successfully prosecuted offences.

Among the objectives of the project is to:

  • compile data on wildlife crime in 11 target countries, improve comparison of data across Europe, and contribute to the work of law enforcement officers
  • increase awareness, knowledge, and capacity of wildlife crime professionals and to improve national and cross-border governance in relation to wildlife crime investigation and prosecution
  • inform relevant national and European level policies
  • raise awareness of practitioners as well as the public on wildlife crime

This is a maternity replacement, for a period of 1 year. The selected candidate is expected to start beginning of August 2021.
