Description of the company:

Humans in the Loop is an award-winning social enterprise providing human input for the ML Ops cycle. We ensure that AI systems operate in a reliable and trustworthy way through a diverse human workforce that is available 24/7 to monitor their performance, handle edge cases in real time, and address alerts. Our social mission is to provide this type of work to conflict-affected and displaced people such as refugees. Recognized by Forbes, MIT Solve, and Expo Dubai 2021's Innovation Impact Program, we are successfully combining a strong business model and a high-impact social mission.

We function as a hybrid between a B2B outsourcing company and a non-profit foundation. Through our company, we serve leading computer vision and AI companies around the world by preparing their training data and monitoring their AI systems in real-time. We work in several verticals, including medical imagery, geospatial technologies, automotive AI, smart retail applications, Agri-tech, and smart industry and manufacturing. This helps to ensure more robust, trustworthy, and ethical AI. We partner with NGOs in different countries in order to provide these types of work to conflict-affected and displaced communities in order to support them in their livelihoods. Through our foundation, we deliver additional skills training and we support our beneficiaries in their career growth. To date, we have served more than 60 AI companies and we have provided job opportunities to more than 500 people across Bulgaria, Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Yemen.

We are currently looking for a Chief Impact Officer who will be managing the entire social impact aspect of the organization, including assessments, strategy, implementation, and fundraising. The post holder will have experience in fields such as impact management, working with vulnerable groups, adult education and VET training, employability, and/or refugees and conflict-affected populations.

  • Location: Fully remote in the EU timezone
  • Compensation: 3000 BGN gross starting salary with guaranteed increases every 6 months + an equity package
  • Hours: Full-time with flexible hours
  • Line management: The CIO will report directly to the CEO

Responsibilities:
  • To spearhead the social impact activities of the organization, including goal setting, planning, OKR tracking and measurement, and the creation and implementation of new policies and processes. In this process, the Chief Impact Officer will work closely with the CEO and other C-level executives.
  • Conduct regular needs assessments of our beneficiaries in the countries where we operate in order to determine the most impactful interventions.
  • Design and improve the organization's Theory of Change and other impact strategies documentation such as gender inclusion plan using methodologies like human-centered design and systems change.
  • Design and implement the training program of HITL, including training curriculum, resources, and in-person, online, and blended courses.
  • Design and implement the career development program of HITL, including personal development plans, career consultations, CV preparation, and job placement.
  • Design and implement new programs which contribute to the goals of the enterprise and respond to the identified needs of our beneficiaries
  • Implement monitoring and evaluation of all impact-related activities of the organization, including the creation of regular annual and quarterly impact reports and scorecards for different projects or client engagements.
  • Spearhead the fundraising efforts of the enterprise, including researching and applying for grants and non-equity financing, as well as impact investment.
  • Showcase the social impact of the enterprise through storytelling, media exposure, blog posts, and appropriate photography and videography materials.
  • Represent the organization at relevant events and coordination groups and committees, create relationships with other organizations in the same field and spread the word about the organization’s activities.
  • Manage the finances of the Humans in the Loop Foundation, and prepare regular budgets and reports, split by program, based on reports with categorized expenses and invoices.
  • Manage the Impact team of the organization, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, setting objectives, and tracking progress.
  • Establish partnerships with other organizations for the purposes of scaling the social impact of the organization and setting up pilots in new countries.
  • Perform other activities as requested by the CEO and as dictated by the needs of the organization or the ideas for innovation and improvement that the Chief Impact Officer comes up with.
Requirements:
  • Educational requirements for the position: A university degree in a relevant
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing successful impact-oriented programs in social enterprises or nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience in fields like refugee protection and integration, post-conflict reconstruction, employability, vulnerable groups, VET training, etc.
  • Strong track record in research, monitoring and evaluation, and program design, including interest in design thinking, human-centered design, service design, and systems change.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, proposal writing, budgeting, EU funding, and/or impact investment.
  • Passion for our social mission as well as a visionary mindset.
  • Strong track record in program design, project management, resource management, and monitoring and evaluation.
