COMMITMENT: Full time/part time
DURATION: Permanent
INTERVIEWS: Expected to take place the second week of June
STARTING DATE: 1st of August or upon agreement

About the role:

Reporting to the Country Manager the overall responsibility of this role is to manage the finances and the accounting of the legal entity of Reach for Change in Bulgaria with its present and future subsidiaries. The main areas of responsibility are; 1.) managing the accounting, 2.) supporting the budgeting, forecasting and reporting for the operations including a number of projects. The Finance officer is overall responsible for correct preparation of financial statements in compliance with the internal rules of the entity, applicable accounting standards and applicable Bulgarian legislation.
This role is broad with end-to-end hands-on exposure, requiring someone with significant tenacity who can deliver results on-time.

Your main responsibilities:
a) Managing the accounting in Bulgaria
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions in line with national statutories, organizational and donor requirements and deadlines.
  • Develop, implement and document necessary accounting process controls to ensure quality and compliance including proposing updates to the financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare statutory financial year end reports and ensure the foundation is compliant with national statutory reporting.
  • Manage the finance and accounting systems
  • Lead the yearly audit process independently, as well as ad hoc project audits
  • Be the go-to person for the organisation regarding accounting and financial issues and support on adhoc questions
  • Work day-to-day closely with the global finance team and respond to any additional assistance

b) Managing budgets and projects
  • Provide support to the Country Manager in the yearly budget process
  • Lead and plan the monthly/annual reporting and forecasting process and enforce associated budgetary controls.
  • Plan, prepare and present monthly financial reports to project owners, management, donors/partners as required.
  • Ensuring accurate project controlling, financial grant management and financial reporting for a number of projects
  • Support creation of financial budgets for fundraising purposes.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the financial policy of the entity, including internal rules (instructions, guidelines) concerning financial activities and procedures, in cooperation with the Country Manager
  • Compliance with the procedures and instructions given by the Country manager.
  • Other duties assigned by the Country Manager
Required qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial accounting or as a Controller
  • Up to date knowledge of Bulgarian accounting regulations and EU accounting standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel
  • Fluent spoken and written English and Bulgarian
  • General good IT computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite,MS Office including remote, cross functional online working.
  • Previous experience working with Netsuite is a plus
  • Previous experience from project management and financial reporting to institutional donors like the EU, Erasmus etc. will be a strong advantage
