A Man Walks into a Bar - What Makes Language Funny?

Welcome to the final English Language Cafe/Multi Kulti collaborative event of the season! We are taking a summer break in July and August, but we will be back in full force in September!

On June 26th, we will delve into the intricacies of the English language with the help of linguist and stand-up comedian Monika Zelewa.

Monika is Polish and holds a degree in linguistics. Her master's thesis analyzed verbal humor from a semantic and pragmatic perspective—in other words, what makes language funny. She works as a technical writer and stand-up comedian. In her presentation, Monika will talk about humor, how it can be expressed in language, and what makes us laugh.

After the lecture, we will enjoy ELC’s Bartender’s signature alcohol-free drinks and spend approximately one hour speaking in small groups as part of our English language exchange.
